![]() Leaving it in makes it more of a cool experiment. If they take it away now, Deerclops will just like all other bosses. In a few months or a year, the guides and youtube playthroughs will probably all settle down and do the same thing as each other, and we'll see by then if people like the new mechanic or hate it (kind of like how Phantasm always uses a minecart to kill EoW and complains how easy it is). I've never died to Deerclops, so I don't know what the respawn thing actually feels like, and so far everything I've seen is hypothetical (like 'I think other players will cheese this'). The devs are thinking 'new players will enjoy this mechanic.' Experienced players like you are thinking 'new players will get annoyed or bored of this mechanic.'īut I haven't heard anyone who's actually experienced this talk about this. We don't know yet how things will shake out. What do you guys think? I'd like to start a discussion and get more opinions.Ĭlick to expand. My reasoning is because this is a new and interesting mechanic. I think that my solution of making Deerclops not despawn, but regenerate his HP upon every player near him dying would eliminate this cheese while also keeping Deerclops faithful to his appearance in Don't Starve. I also know that Deerclops despawns naturally, but that's only after three days, and that is quite a long time. I know that the devs made him this way because it's more faithful to what Deerclops is like in Don't Starve, but Don't Starve is a very different game from Terraria (such as DS having permadeath as a core mechanic), and what works for one game might not work for the other. The items you can get from Deerclops are actually good now, and allowing the player to cheese what would otherwise be a fairly hard boss by mindlessly slamming their face into a wall 1,000 times to get good equipment does a disservice to both Deerclops as a boss and Terraria's progression as a whole. If you are going to get slaves to do the work for you, Tentecles, Treeguards, and/or Bearger are best.As is, Deerclops seems too easy to cheese due to him not despawning upon the player's death. Luring near Dragonfly is wayyy too risky, your loot could burn and it could be extremely hard to retrieve it if it didn't. I don't really like kiting Deerclops, and tanking, as Charlie Dark said, next to a campfire I feel is much more efficient.Ģ. Then, lure Dfly to her despawn point once she kills Deerclops and quickly grab the loot before she comes back.ġ. Keep your distances as Dfly could decide to attack you instead if you are to close. If Dfly does not agro, then repeat the process. You will need to get the Dragonfly's agro and then get in range of deerclops and doge his hit while Dfly is in range. Use armor for this, as you might get hit. ![]() Lastly, can can lure him to the Dragonfly. If there is a tentacle trap setpiece (the one with 1000 tentacles and 10000 reeds), lure him there, tentacles will kill him. The good side of this is: you will get a lot of logs. If you do this, make sure you have enough stuff to keep you warm as it can take a long time. First of all, you can get him in a forest and make him chop trees for you, so that a Treeguard spawns. You can also bring Deerclops to other bosses or mobs. If you use this method, make sure that you have stuff to keep you warm, 10-15 cooked green mushrooms or equivalent to avoid insanity while fighting him, a fresh ham-bat or a tentacle spike and a Log Suit / Football Helmet at full durability to fight him, just in case.Ģ) Killing him using other mobs. Hit 2-4 times, depending on your skill level / speed boost and dodge. Here are the 2 most effective methods I know of to kill him:ġ) The kiting method. The reason why killing Deerclops is a good thing is: the eyeball allows you to craft the eyebrella, a very useful rain protection item. This is not the case of a begginer: they often forget to prepare entirely. Deerclops is a simple boss, as long as you understand how to beat him.
