Some of our audiovisual equipment and systems included flat panel displays in almost all fitness areas, ceiling-mounted speakers throughout the facility, and room control keypads and touch panels. Our security design included CCTV, access control, intrusion detection system, and all headend equipment. SM&W’s security and audiovisual team worked to finalize the project’s construction documents, reviewing existing documentation from years prior and contributing final design and specifications, while also providing bidding and construction administration design services. Phase II consisted of the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, totaling 99,000 square feet, and includes a 50-meter competition pool with diving boards and stadium seating, a leisure pool with lazy river and slides, a fitness area with the latest weight equipment, mobility training areas, a specialized core area, a basketball court, fitness/dance spaces, an elevated jogging track, a rock climbing wall, and typical locker and storage space. Matt is a strong supporter of law enforcement who fought for new Traffic Safety positions based in each Loudoun Sheriff Office station. More recently, he’s worked to bring back the Avonlea Town Center project, with space for new retail and restaurants, and he’s fought against allowing apartments at Dulles Landing right under Dulles Airport flight paths. Over the years, he successfully worked to keep power lines away from the south side of Route 50, and block VDOT from building express lanes without local access. He’s taken a strong position against the construction of data centers near residential communities. While he’s known as a consensus-builder on the Board, he’s not afraid to stand up and fight. Matt has demanded better proffers from developers, and has opposed land development projects that are not in the best interest of the community. protectiNg our interests AND KEEPING US SAFE In the County budget, he was able to accelerate construction of Cardinal Ridge Elementary School, Goshen Post Elementary School, Willard Intermediate School, Rock Ridge High School and Lightridge High School to ensure that our children and teachers have the space they need. Matt has also worked to alleviate overcrowding in our schools. His Field Improvement Initiative resulted in upgrades and restrooms at numerous school fields. He partnered with the South Riding Proprietary to construct the Conklin Park Bike Trail and helped negotiate land acquisition for a future park on Braddock Road. For years, he worked to put together funding to construct Hanson Park, a 200 acre regional park with a variety of amenities and numerous fields. From opening the Gum Spring Library to funding and constructing the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, Matt’s work has brought unprecedented improvements to Dulles South.
